Over 50 bags of garbage were gathered during the ‘Taza Qazaqstan’ initiative at the strategic site of Big Almaty Lake.

On June 9, 2026, the Institute of Ionosphere hosted an eco-campaign under the national ‘Taza Qazaqstan’ framework on the grounds of Big Almaty Lake (BAL), supported by the Ile-Alatau National Park.
The initiative aimed to draw public attention to maintaining the environmental integrity of a strategically crucial natural landmark while fostering ecological responsibility and awareness.
Nearly 60 participant-comprising personnel from the Institute of Ionosphere, activists from the Almaty Youth Policy Department, and volunteers-joined the cleanup.
Together, they collected over 50 bags of refuse around Big Almaty Lake, primarily consisting of discarded plastic and aluminum beverage containers, packaging, wipes, and general tourist litter.

Big Almaty Lake is both a premier landmark of the Almaty region and a site of strategic importance for ongoing scientific research and environmental monitoring. Maintaining the ecological integrity of this territory is essential for supporting scientific work, environmental conservation, and the region’s sustainable development.
Organizers point out that much of the litter results from careless behavior by certain visitors. Consequently, the Institute of Ionosphere calls upon residents and tourists alike to keep recreational areas clean, pack out their waste, and safeguard Kazakhstan’s unique natural treasures.
This initiative marks another step by the Institute of Ionosphere in supporting the national ‘Taza Qazaqstan’ program, dedicated to conserving the nation’s natural heritage and advancing environmental awareness across society.
